Driver CPC Update

From December 2024 drivers have two options to stay CPC qualified, depending on whether they drive outside of the UK. - Take 35 hours of International Driver CPC training every 5 years to be able to drive in the UK and EU. - Take 35 hours of National Driver CPC (or a combination of 35 hours of National and International CPC training) every 5 years to be able to drive only in the UK.

What is CPC?

Professional lorry, bus and coach drivers must carry out 35 hours periodic training every five years to maintain a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) card. From December 2024 drivers have two options to stay CPC qualified, depending on whether they drive outside of the UK:
– Take 35 hours of International Driver CPC training every 5 years to be able to drive in the UK and EU.
– Take 35 hours of National Driver CPC (or a combination of 35 hours of National and International CPC training) every 5 years to be able to drive only in the UK.

Using spreadsheets to manage CPC hours

Often training records are consigned to outdated spreadsheets which can be open to user error, loss of data and are unlikely to provide any warnings of expiring training hours.

Using a specialist driver risk platform, such as DAVIS to manage CPC hours

The DAVIS platform includes a free-to-use drivers’ CPC hours feature which enables fleet and transport managers to keep training records up to date by manually inputting the data. DAVIS will then highlight the drivers who may be at risk of not completing their training hours within the required time frame on the dashboard.

If you’d like to record CPC hours, system administrators have access to the configuration screen to adjust this within DAVIS.

1. Click the profile icon in the top right of the screen to enter the admin area

2. Select ‘Licence Settings’ from the left hand side

3. Select the ‘Other Settings’ tab

4. Switch on ‘Enable CPC training hours’ to activate

Advance warning of CPC expiry

The Licence Check module provides managers with easy-to-read dashboards showing actionable data, including advance warnings of all drivers who are at risk of not completing their training within the required time frame.

Our Group Product Lead, James Povah, explains “the CPC Hours feature provides managers with improved risk forecasting and advance notice of upcoming CPC expiry. As a result, the situation can be managed proactively and associated training planned accordingly. Overall, the feature provides a more accurate view of risk with enhanced data now being added to the driver record.”

Improved visibility of driver risk

With warnings of upcoming CPC expiry highlighted on the system’s summary dashboard, DAVIS clients will have improved visibility of driver risk, ensuring that fleet and public safety is never compromised.

The inclusion of this data within DAVIS ensures that risk is managed more effectively as all information is stored in a single place. The system calculates when training is overdue and provides notifications and email alerts so that fleet and transport managers and other system users are made aware of upcoming risk and can take remedial action.
